EGR problems???

About a month ago I purchased a 96 2.5 TL with 184k miles on it. I drove the car for 3k more miles and the engine threw a rod. Since then I replaced the engine with one I found out of a junk yard with 72k miles.

Prior to the original engine blowing I would get a CEL with the error code for insufficient EGR flow. The original intake was taken off of the old motor as there was some differences between the new engine that was out of a 97. So after replacement I would still get the same error code. I cleaned the EGR chamber which was completely clogged with carbon and replaced the EGR valve. Now the engine runs rough like it is getting to much EGR flow. I can remove the EGR vacuum and it runs well again but will give the CEL again.

I am wondering now if the EGR vacuum control valve may be bad? If anyone has experienced similar problems with the EGR system I would love to hear your input.

I may have figured it out.....after studying the vacuum hose diagrams it appears as though the vacuum lines to the EGR control valve were reversed.......doh. Well hope that fixed it will drive for awhile to see if the CEL still comes on.
