Effing oil filter
Effing oil filter
I hate having to change that damn thing. I only change it every other time (6,000 miles total) since it is still within the suggested life of the filter.
But the thing is in there so tight and in such an awkward spot to get at. Can't get it from the bottom, and even from the top, it's damn hard for me.
Maybe it is cause I am tall, and have long limbs/big hands.
Maybe it just isn't a user friendly design.
I changed it tonight, and took the top half of the air box off to help get my hand/arm in there and get a good hold on it.

I was proud of myself. When I changed my oil a week ago I managed to get it off even though the last guy to put it on is probably twice as strong as me. I wonder what Honda was thinking when they put the filter there. Such a pain in the ass.
Yeah, mine was pretty tight, but nothing I couldn't manage. I just hope it is back on there tight enough, I took it out and let it run for a few minutse when I was moving cars around at my house, and I didn't see any leak, so I should be fine.
From the manual, it looks like the 3.2 filter is much much easier to get to.

Most filters recommend you tighten it 3/4-1 full turn after the gasket reaches the block. Though some are supposed to be as tight as possible (By hand) due to a thicker gasket. If the 3.2 has it in the same place as the 3.5RL then it's right next to the drain plug and infinitely easier than the 2.5.

Yep, it is hard to get at, but Craftsman has a three prong adapter that should work good. It goes over the end of the filter and uses a 3/8 drive socket or breaker bar. Been meaning to pick it up, think it only runs around 7.
Yeah, a description would be nice. I was thinking of getting a regular oil filter wrnech but it seems like it would still be hard to get in there and turn it.
I'm 6'2" btw.

well me and my dad changed my oil today, and he has this fitting for an oil filter that goes onto a socket wrench, I think if you take your oil filter to home depot or something, they will have the correct size and type....hope that helped.
Anyone ever think of getting a oil filter relocation kit? I was thinking about doing that since the danm thing is so hard to get to. I already have a oil cooler that i'm thinking about putting in
autozone, pepboys, walmart, sears, etc....
Where they sell oil filter, most likely they'll have it.
Here is what mine and LDH looks like:

Except we bought it at autozone for $7.
It is adjustable so just open up the jaws, snap it on the filter, and use your 3/8" rachet to unscrew the filter. The instant you turn the rachet counter-clockwise, the jaws will tighten up and hold the filter. By far the easiest I have used. No more messing around with caps unless you're sure you're going to use the same kind of filter again. I usually do a lot of people's car so I need to make sure I can get the old filter out each time quickly and easily.
Use your hand to tighten back on the filter. After the filter gasket touches the engine, all you really need is about 3/4th of the turn by hand and it'll be good enough.
