drop-in K&N air filter

First off, I'm a newbie in this group, and if I'm restating on old discussion, sorry...

I did a search, and there doesn't seem to be any threads related to a direct drop-in K&N replacement. If I'm wrong, sorry for repeating this...

OK. Apologies out of the way, here goes. I wanted to try the K&N air filter thing on my 97 3.2tl

According to K&N, they don't make an oem replacement filter for the 97. HOWEVER, the 91-95 Legend uses the same Fram filter, and K&N makes a drop-in for it. I figured the fit must be REALLY close.

I ordered it from the local parts store here in Saskatoon, and just got it today.

PLUNK. Fits perfectly. No ripping anything out, having custom pipes cut, thirty second installation time.

I haven't had any time to check things out, but I know what my fuel economy was like before, and I'll be monitoring things over the next couple of weeks.

If any of you want to try it out, the K&N part number is 33-2089. Have at it, guyz...

ok this is for all the guys asking about air filters.

THERE ARE NO DROP IN K&N FILTERS MADE FOR THE 1ST GEN 2.5 OR 3.2 TL'S

this does not mean that we're out of luck. i believe there's someone out there that said the legend filters will fit the 3.2, but these won't fit the 2.5

if you wanna actually improve the performance of the car....drop in filters don't really do that much crap....add either a short ram or CAI like many of us on the board has.

If you want to go the ghetto way (the way i did, i have a 2.5) get yourself a cone filter (doesn't matter what brand, cause they're all basically the same) with a 3 inch diameter. now all you have to do is take out the stock air box and replace it with this cone filter. easy as that. and costs no more than 30 bucks.

now for you that wanna be more ambitious and demand more from your I5's or V6's, you can go for the CAI or short ram. these would require you to do some cutting metal and what not. directions are somewhere on this site, you'll have to do a search.

hope this helps clarify some stuff

Actually there is a drop in air filter for our car at least for the 3.2 because I bought one like two months ago. I thought that it would improve the gas and what not but I don't notice a difference. I am going with the short ram way. There is a site I think it's ahmotor.com and I paid like 45-50 dollars so I think it's really not worth the money.

Even if it it only works as well as a standard paper filter, It'll pay for itself very soon. A replacement paper filter for my 3.2 is $45 plus taxes. I paid 59 for the K&N, and I'll never have to buy another.

I doubt I'll see any performance increase based on what everyone is saying, but that's ok too...
