distributor cap and rotor
New to this site...I just got a 97 2.5 tl....78k @ $9000...so frar so good...nice ride. Being doing some of the basics such as a new NGK wire harness, plugs, etc but I'm stuck on the distributor cap...
has anyone any tips or hints on the best was to access the two
bolts on the cap???? There is less than an inch of clearance between the unit and the firewall. Thks.

I'm not sure about the 2.5TL, but the 3.2 has a distributor on each of the cylinders. I noticed that the first time I changed my spark plugs. Pretty cool design and I guess it is more efficient that way.

the 3.2 has a new design. the 2.5 has a more conventional style
with the rotor/cap at the end of the cylinder head, the problem
is getting to it since the cap is so close to the firewall:wow:
i gess i just have to remove from that area all the items that
are in the way and try to get at it with my conventional tools.
either that or just simply spend the money and take the car to
the dealer

Removing the Distribuitor
is very simple you need to disconect the battery and detach the aluminum plates, then you need to unplug all your spark plug wires. Then you need one of those little socket wrenches to unscrew the screws. There are two screws that you need to unscrew. They are located in the lower left corner right where the heat shield curves 90 degrees they other screw is easyer is on the the top right corner. After you do this you are able to take out the whole distributor assembly.

All '97's are under the extended emissions warrenty. Since you've already changed most of the stuff, take it in at 100k miles or something because you have up to 150k miles to get the tune-up done for free by your Acura dealer.

IMO, a distrubotor cap and rotor and plugs for that matter are all required maintenance items and i dont think these items are specifically related to the emissions recall - then again im not sure and thats why im asking

As part of the settlement, Acura has agreed to perform two special services to your vehicle:
1.Acura dealers will inspect your vehicle's emission control system while it is in the mileage rangeof 50,000 to 75,000 miles. This inspection will ensure that your emission control system is performing properly. Any necessary repairs to the emission control system (including parts and labor) will be performed free of charge.
2.In the mileage range of 75,000 to 150,000 miles, Acura dealers will replace certain emission components in your vehicle free of charge. These components include spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap, and rotor. A free oil and oil filter change will also be part of this one-time service, but remember--your vehicle is not eligible until it has reached 75,000 miles. At the time of this service, the OBD system will be inspected again and any necessary repairs performed free of charge. It is recommended that you have this one-time service performed in conjunction with the scheduled maintenance at 90,000 miles (refer to your owner's manual).
