Damn it

So last Friday i was leaving work and my car wouldn't start. Fast forward to Monday and i found out my timing belt snapped and i might have a couple bent valves. The shop said it would be around $500 for the whole job. The worst part is i was only at 80,532 miles Has anyone changed their belt them self?

$500 is dirt cheap if your belt really did snap.

Seriously that is a deal!! That is weird though how that happened at that low of a mileage.

Like everyone said, it's not a bad deal at all if the belt really did snap. Whoever owned the car before you probably left the car idle without driving it like many people I see down here do. They just sit inside with the A/C on for hours...or maybe just because of the age of the belt and some environmental factors affecting it.

Unless it really wasn't the timing belt and was the starter.

~Cheers~

Have you tried jumping the car? If you can get it started then bring it to Autozone to get a free starter test.

When you start it, do you hear the starter cranking? But no engine turn?

That means timing belt....

If no crank, no noise, no starter....could be the starter.

I know its not the starter Ive tired to jump it and no luck. My mechanic is a family friend so i trust him, he showed me the timing belt and it looked horrible. Is there anything else i should get done while i am getting the TB replaced?
