Custom Subwoofer Enclosure

hi, i am building a custom subwoofer enclosure for my 2.5 tl and was wondering if i should put 2 10" subs or 2 12" subs. they're gonna be shallow mount, because i still want room to fit the stroller for my daughter. also, if anybody is interested in having one built for their car. the trunk space is the same as the 3.2. if anyone is interested let me know. i will be posting pics as i am in the process of building it.

2 10's will be more than enough... 1 12 is also alot... It depends on the brand and the wattage.

it actually depends on the sub you are running with. What brand and what size? How many subs? i ask b/c each brand has a recommended sub enclosure built and since you said you are custom making it, hopefully you'll consider using the recommended dimension. That is the only way to really have it pound - I can't stress that ENOUGH. I have seen high end audio toys in a crappy enclosure built just so it'll look good for a car show..it sounds like ass.

back to your question, see what the dimensions recommended are for whatever subs you'll be using and use that to see if you can do 2 12" or 2 10" or 1 12" or 1 10" Some subs will pound with 1 10" than 2 12s so keep that in mind too.

Before my system got stolen out of my 3.2 last March, I had 2 12" MTX 7500 series subs in an MTX sledgehammer enclosure and tha shit was so loud and clean it rattled windows in houses near and far. I lost alot of trunk space but I sacrificed because I wanted a killer sound with deep, deep bass.

I'm currently replacing the stolen enclosure and subs and although I lost trunk space and have a new baby that will be born in the next 2 months, Ima go back with 12"Subs and the sledgehammer enclosure

I bought 2 sledgehammer enclosures that fit 10's and 12's just in case I need to drop down to 10's.

^ Congrats on the baby!! Anyhow, 2 10s should be more than enough, I was only running an 8" and people couldn't tell it was that small. Are you going sealed, or ported?

~Cheers~

i dont know why we cant move our seats down but tl 96-98 to my knowlege u cant move da seats down and that reduces louder sound we only have a little hole we can pull down if we could move our seats down just one speakers would sound louder probally but yeah i think u should go with 2 , 12s so u can knock harder

Thanks bra, I could've found out what the baby's sex was but I decided to wait until birth.

As for my set up, I went ported before so I'm going that way again. I couldn't decide so i bought 2 sledgehammer enclosures in case I wanted the 10's instead of 12' or vice versa.

longsta,

TLs are luxury vehicles and as such you never flip seats in luxury vehicles. If I wanted 60/40 seats, I would've bought a Civic, Accord or Protege

Damn, pretty nice. A guy I know wants me to move his 3000w Premier sub from his Corolla () to his 300C. Why he even had it in the Corolla to begin with, I don't know.

~Cheers~

I was thinking a box there, but having access via the ski pass saved my ass when I locked my keys in the trunk. I had planned to have the sub at a 45 degree angle, though. BTW, that 10 looks TINY in that box, hehe. You need to get another 10 ASAP.

~Cheers~

10 is enough , the 2 corners are halo, it wasnt completely fill with wood so i made it like a box like 10x10 , and i couldnt make a full box it was a pain in the ass to get it right. i also was planing on making that 45 degree box but i didnt figure out how to cuz i needed that access too.

I've got 2 12" pioneer premiere's and a 1200 watt mono-block powering them, and mine gets almost too loud if I turn up the sub-out on my receiver, all the mirrors shake and it still sounds great and if this is the effect you're going for then do some twelves. otherwise 1 twelve or 1 ten might provide the extra little bit of bass that you are wanting to have out of the car.

My box now is a 45 degree cut, which cost me $5. Special sale, and it's for an 8" sub.

I wouldn't be surprised if his front license plate bolts fall out from vibration, haha! Even with my sub my trunk flexed a bit. I left 2 soda can on my trunk when I was working on a buddy's car, turned on some music, and lost two drinks, haha.

~Cheers~

It fell into the lap of an older friend who did not know what he had and did not care he just wanted that big JL box out of his basement. Imagine my suprise when he called me to buy a speaker for 90 bucks and when I got there it was still in an sealed un open box, so all I had to do was have the sealed enclosure built.

And no I don't have any dynamat but I am planning on it soon.

if you think your setup is loud, try getting a ported box.. you'll hear a big difference ESPECIALLY if you get one build to spec!

I kind of like the sealed box because I think it give a deeper richer sound, I have not heard a 13w7 in a ported box yet. I have a friend who has a yukon with 4 jl13w7's in sealed enclosures and it's just rediculous.
