Anyone know how bad it is to change the starter on a 3.2?

It's bad. The front left suspension and axle have to come out. You can get all the bolts except for ONE that's facing the other way without removing anything, but that damned last one is the bitch. You're changing yours?

~Cheers~

I have the 2.5 and had my mechanic do it...he complained that it had to be one of the most annoying ones he could remember. He has been in the business for 25 years of more. Btw are you replacing it with a OEM starter or like a bosch rebuilt or some other?

The download manual has a complete description of starter replacement for 3.2TL. It doesn't sound too bad. Removal of drive shaft is not a big deal w/ correct tools, principally a good ball joint separator tool to break tierod and lower ball joints.

If axle is stuck in wheel bearing hub (rust), borrow Autozones front axle puller tool and push the axle out of the hub. Don't hit w/ a hammer.

good luck

I had the dealer replace it recently..It's gonna cost ya!! Paid $900+ for everything. Most of the cost was labor. It's a real pain to get to the starter. This is not your typcial DIY type of job. I'd recommend taking it to a shop to get this done. Make sure the shop has Honda/Acura experience if you choose not to take it to the dealer..Good Luck!!!

I replaced the starter in a 97 TL 2.5 and it was a real pain in the a**. You have to have some patients or you will pull your hair out. The bolt on the bottom of the starter is a pain because you have to do it blind. But if you are a weekend mechanic, it should take you a few hours, if you are like me, then maybe a little longer.

Mine got replaced under warranty and yes they had to take the DR axle out. The dealer also managed to bust my DR tire...and they replaced it with a different brand...how's that for creativity....but I busted them and forced the to find my tire...after getting my car serviced....I always find time to check the car in DETAIL....they will puck it up!
