Changing Oil Filter Holder
Changing Oil Filter Holder
Has anyone changed the oil filter holder on there 1st gen 3.2 from the factory installed M22x1.5 to the more common for Honda's M20x1.5. I am doing this so i only have to buy 1 filter for all 4 of my Acura/Honda's, and not pay 3x for a oil filter for my 98 Tl. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

Highly suggest you do not do this project. There are reasons why they are designed that way. Making it (the filter) common does not really save you money. What's the frequency of your oil changes?
My OCI are every 3-5K w/ a filter change every other change. I do my own oil changes and i dont use factory filters i like Purolators my self. I know the Legends and 1st gen TL's came w/ the M22x1.5 holder and the 96-04 3.5 RL's came w/ the M20x1.5 holder, basically the same engine as the 3.2. What are your concerns the oil pump and its volume? The TL & RL do use different oil pumps they do not even look the same.
Well after doing some research on the oil pump specs for the C32A6 and the C35A there is very little difference in the amount of oil the pumps produce. 44.7 US qt/min @ 6000 rpm for the C32A6 and 40.0 US qt/min @ 6000 rpm for the C35A. Now the C35A uses a Purolator 14459 which is the same filter as all my F22B1"s use and there oil pumps produce 77.7 US qt/min @ 6000 rpm. So the oil filter can handle more volume than the C32A6"s oil pump can produce. So i think i am going to change the oil filter holder to the M20x1.5 on my next oil change as long as the filter gasket seals against the oil pan mating surface. I wont know this until i remove the filter that's on there now.

But seriously, if you ever get around in doing this let us know how it goes.
