Changing front and rear speakers
Changing front and rear speakers
Hi i have just joined this group. I just purchased a 97 3.2 tl with 74K miles on it. My question is how do I get the grills off so I can replace the speakers? I have some real nice pioneer speakers to put in and once that is done I will try to tackle putting in a Blaupunkt Hamberg receiver in. Next question I do I post pics? I want to show off my new ride to people like you that like this car.
The grill for the two door mounted 6.5's come off with the door panel. Remove the door panel by unscrewing the armrest thingy and the door lock. Each has one screw. Then grab a spot at the bottom corner (opposite of the door hinge) and pull. Plastic snaps will go off as you work around it.
The grill for the dash tweeters just comes up if you pry it.
The grills for the rear 6x9s are held on by screws from the trunk.
Post images by finding a place to host them first. Then give the url like this: "" but without the quotes.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=rear+speakers for how to remove the rear mesh, i used it and saved myself alot of time and cursing
Ok the speakers are in, now the next question is speaker wire. The stock speakers have a plug that has three wires going into it. One wire is brown (I think it is a ground) and the other two are red with a yellow stripe on one speaker and blue with a yellow stripe on the other I am assuming they are the positive and plan to hook those to the positive side. Can anyone let me know if I am doing this right.
Not sure exactly what the mounting depth is, but with a decent trim plate made from MDF you can fit almost anything. I've got a 1/2" piece made to fit my Kaptio Pro 6 1/2's. they are not super deep, but way deeper than factory and they fit fine with that plate.
I put some pioneer 6.5" 2-ways that cost $50 and they slipped right in with no modifications other than wiring. I also put 6"x9" pioneer 4-ways in the back with no modifications to the brackets. Next is a Blaupunkt deck.
