Question CD player in 1g TL doesn't work!!! CDP-EO

I just purchased my TL a few weeks back and have found the cd player doesn't play cd's! The stock system sounds great but I am forced to bow to FM's demands. When I put the CD in the screen says CDP-EO then ejects the cd. Does anyone know what this means or how to correct this? I like the look and simplicity of the stock head unit (minus the tape player, but realize tapes still existed in 97). I searched and searched but cannot find any good info. I did read someone's post about using a 2g head unit in a 1g but the post didn't elaborate. Also, an aftermarket head unit would be ok but like I said I like the integrated look and finish of the stocker and I dont' really care about navi. This is my very first post so any and ALL info will be appreciated. This TL is also my first stab at a Honda, I graduated from a 2g eclipse gst. Anyone with anything for sale would be helpful too but don't cheat a newbie...that's just wrong! Thanks.

Your CD player is not able to read a CD that you burn. I had this same problem when I first got my car and then I just said f it and got an aftermarket headunit with CD player and iPod intergration.

well it does the exact same thing on a non-burned cd also. Looking at the common problems sticky I'm seeing many people with the same problem. guess I need an aftermarket but I just wanted it too look classy. I don't care about navi and don't really plan to have subs or anything I just want a decent-looking DD unit to play CD's. thanks

I got a single din head unit - works great! Just get the mounting kit from Crutchfield.

Or look on Crutchfield and see the dual din options they have. Then look on craigslist or Amazon for cheap ones. I got my Kenwood Bluetooth and USB HU off a guy on CL for $130. I took a risk by simply trusting the guy that it worked. Well, it did!

^ Simm, did you get the light I sent?

Back on topic, I got a single din, too.

I've had 2 1st gen TL's, both had faulty cd players - replaced them with an aftermarket single din in both cars.

Yeah I have the same problem too. Someone on here actually took the head-unit apart and cleaned everything (if I remember well), put it back together and it started working again. Another option is to get an iPod/MP3 player adapter that connects to the CD changer outputs. You can also get a cassette adapter which is what I am using until I get a 2din head-unit. There are some pretty good looking 2din HU's that are moderately priced, so if you want it to look more-or-less stock you should go for a double din in my opinion.

Go90go, Yes, I got the light today - thanks! But it doesn't go in the d4 light location! So I put it in the 'overhead' lighting in the dash but it doesn't work. humph. It seems the d4 light is a special bulb (long shaft thingy)..

I ordered 10 or so LED's just like the one you sent to replace the cig lighter, shift plate light, etc.

DAiNiUS, I tried cleaning out the whole system as well (stripped it down to bits and pieces), but to no avail. Still the good ole CDPEO code. So that's why I replaced the HU and now have my favorite music on a tiny little 8GB USB drive in my glove box.

That stock CD player can be very picky. Mines would not read any burn CDs when damp outside. Problem solved with an aftermarket HU.

You have to flip it around! LEDs are polarised, so try flipping it around. If the ones you ordered are like the one I sent you, then you'll like the cigarette lighter but you'll hate it in the shifter, coin tray, and overheads.

Thanks, I'll check that out. Do you know where I could get some LED replacements for the D4, D3, D2, and D1 lights? They don't look like anything I have seen in the LED world..

And why would I hate the LED's in the shifter and other mentioned places? Are they not 'ambient' enough? I could just sand them down.

I made my shifter light housing into a reflector housing, and it spread the three LEDs I have in there much more evenly. I also removed the diffuser panel that's in there.

I had the same problem. I bought a "cleaner cd" and put it in. it ejected it like 9 times, but finally accepted it and it worked. mine plays all cds, even burnt.
The used carlot I got it from bought me a new deck, because I complained about it.
If you want it, we could work something out. mine is a 96

Stock player will read burned CD's as long as they're decent quality. Don't buy cheap blank CDs. Stick to Sony etc.

^ Taiyo Yuden FTMFW. Actually, Wal*Mart uses Taiyo Yuden media for their Archival PhotoCDs. You can't buy them from them directly, but it shows that the media is archival quality. Cheap discs can have a failure rate as high as 25%!

take apart the radio and clean the CD player lens with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. It worked for me. It might work for you.

buy a laser lens cleaner. just keep putting it in until it reads. it worked for mine, and now it even plays burned cds.

Welcome! Unfortunately, I literally threw out 3 or 4 tape adapters the day before yesterday, otherwise one could've been yours! If I find any more, I'll post it up.

You don't want to go aftermarket? The price/features of an OEM HU can't beat a good aftermarket one.

Lens cleaner will work 50% of the time. As earlier said, keep cleaning it until you begin to read CD's.

spend like a hundred bucks and get a new cd player. I recommend pioneer if you get a lower end one because they still put out good sound.

So..... I guess try and fine an OEM HU that works?
I wish we could use one from a newer or late model Honda or Acura. That's sucks

The newer ones you'd want arent double din really which is very unfortunate.

I hated the stock radio when I had it for all of 5 days.

The CD player in it didn't work so now it is just sitting in my garage.

So for over a year, my rear speakers have not worked. Then last week, my radio stopped working but it was getting power because the light was on where you turn it on. So Saturday I said ef it and I took my radio out. I had Circuit City install it in 2007.

So when I took the radio out, I saw that the install was not clean at all. Those idiots did a shitty job. The harnesses were all tangled up. So I was like hmmmmm. Then I untangled the harness, unplugged everything and then hoped for the best. I turned it and IT TURNED ON! Not only did it turn on, but the rear speakers worked as well!!!

Finally I put everything back and loved it.
