In-Car Temperature Sensor failed

I've run the climate control self-diagnosis function and it says I have an "in-car temperature sensor" fault (P/N: 37880-PE2-013). The part is fairly easy to replace, and costs only $50, so I could fix it, I don't know why I want to.

The system still seems to work fine (i.e it blows hot and cold air and I generally use manual speed control for the fan).

Does anybody know what will happen if I don't fix this problem?

NOTE: I had one experience when I could not get the fan to run - even manually - that I don't understand but can not repeat.

UPDATE: The connector to the switch had actually come off. I reconnected the connector and all faults were cleared. Actually, I think I left the connector off in July 2008 when I did some maintenance that required removal of the dash board.

Now I just have to understand why the blower motor momentarily stopped working the other day. Research so far suggest that it is either the power transistor, the blower motor relay, or the blower motor brushes. Since the problem went away by itself, I'm guessing its either the relay or the brushes. Does anyone have experience in this area?

Could you post the link for the self-diagnosis please? I tried it once with instructions from a website and it didn't do anything, maybe yours are different.

I don't have a link - I used hard copies of the ACURA 2.5TL Service Manual, section 22.10.

Both the relay and the blower motor can be intermittent. I would wait until it fails completely or gets worse. You could swap the relay w/ a similar relay and see if problem goes away. It's in the under-dash relay box.

If thumping the lower dash hard causes the blower to restart, worn brushes are likely. It's a tough job to replace the blower. There was a good recent writeup of another's experience w/ this job.

good luck
