Brakes
Brakes
Greetings,
I just installed Raybestos pads on my 1996 3.2TL from Kragen's and it feels the same as my old OEM pads. I wasn't sure how good the Raybestos pads were, but that's all they had at Kragen's ( I had to do the car in a hurry and the dealership was closed). After 1 or 2 semi hard stomps on the pads (40mph - 0)- the brakes feel mushy just like my old OEM pads. Do any of you have that problem? My other car, a 1993 MR2 Turbo feels good no matter how many time I stomp on it

you might have to replace your rotors?

it might be the brand of brakes you purchased.

Just a thought here, Mushy brakes usually are associated with brake fluid issues. Either air in the fluid or possibly moisture. Acura, I believe recommends changing the brake fluid every two years.
A search of Popular Mechanics web site yields a number of articles on the subjcet and how to correct it.
You've changed pads now and have the same problem so I might look elsewhere before going after the rotors. Sometimes new pads need to bed or setup or whatever you want to call it, so maybe the performance will improve soon. But since you had mushy brakes before it's likely it won't improve.
Give'em a week and if still mushy and you haven't had the brake fluid changed. Bleed them and change it.
Hope this helps.

Either air in the brake lines or a bad master cylinder. It happened to me when I bought my 3.2 a few weeks ago. I would push the brakes, then the pedal would go all the way to the floor after the car was stopped and the only way to keep the car stopped was to push the pedal to the floor. The Honda shop I take the car to told me that Honda recommends a fluid change every 30k miles or the old brake fluid become so acidic, it would eat away all the seals and stuff, which leads to brake failure.
