What does a bump stopper do and do we really need it?

The shocks is what keeps the car from bouncing too much.

so your stock shocks might be getting too old...
Why did you remove the Koni's ?

the bump stopper helps to soften the hit when the car goes over a bump along with keeping the noise down the springs/shocks when it's working.

I think from previous posts that you had Koni adjustable damping shocks. Did you find the ride too stiff even with the adjustment all the way down? I have Eibach Pro Kits with Koni adjustables and it is set about 1-1/2 turns on the front and 1-3/4 on the rear and it is perfect with a solid but not harsh ride.

It's too bad Koni's did not work for you.

Remember I had 18" wheels with 40series tires and I had the tunning all the way down but I set the spring height to the sport setting and you will not know hoow harsh tthe ridde is uuntil you take the shocks out and put yourr ssttock ones back but I am going to get KYB shocks. They are the only aftermarket shocks built for 2.5TL's.

Thanks for the info! I now understand why your TL rode so rough. Your shocks may have been bottoming out or your suspension may have been hitting the rubber stops. I also have 18" 40 series tires, but have my spring perch at the highest setting and the ride is great. By reading all the postings, I think the 2.5 and 3.2 suspensions are quite different. My total drop from stock with Eibachs and Koni sports (at max height) is about 1-3/4"

Regarding the KYB's, I put them on my Cadillac and after a few months they got bouncy. I also have a friend that put KYB's on his Acura Integra which is dropped quite a bit with H&R springs and after a few months, the shocks started to get bouncy. I'm not sure about KYB's for TL's and how long they last, but it may be worth posting for feedback before you buy them.

Good Luck!

The part numbers are the same as all the postings: both front & back are 8041 Koni's. The biggest problem was with the front shocks. It seems that the Accords and 2.5TL's are similar and the shocks are about 2" shorter than the 3.2TL's and the spring perch is smaller in diameter. I had to take the perches off the stock shocks and use them on the Koni's. Also, because the shocks are much shorter, you have to have a heavy duty spring compressor to get the Eibach's on. I posted a complete procedure on the site several months ago. Try a search.

i believe the 8040's are NOT externally adjustable (AKA no white knob to turn), but someone please correct me if i am wrong.

The 8040's are that ones I originally purchased and yes, I did post them for sale. I found out after I sold them that they were adjustable, however not with a knob like the 8041's. I think you have to pre-set them before mounting on your car.

Make sure that the mechanic you get to install the shocks has experience in altering suspensions. My mechanic worked on race cars and he enjoyed installing Koni's on my TL because it was not a simple bolt on.
