Is blacking out lights legal?

I am thinking about blacking out my taillights and fog lights, and I just want to know if I am fully legal in the state of California if I do this?

Thanks guys

are you going to take the yellow lens out of the headlights just to tint it and then put it back in? For the rears as long as all the lights are still visible when you hit the brakes it should be fine.

Btw where in cali are you?

Black housing is different from tinted headlights. The black housing doesn't affect the light output whereas tinted headlights (putting tint film over the headlights) minimizes the light output. I've gotten pulled over before and the cop looked at my black housing and did not say anything. But my friend w/tinted headlights on his 350Z was not so fortunate, i think he said something bout gettin a fixing ticket. THIS IS IN CALI btw, so i don't know about other states.
