Bad News

As some of you guys may know I put in a New Suspension in my car, Eibach Pro Kit and Tokicos.

Well I was driving home from work on Friday evening around 5:30pm. My Lower Ball Joint Cracked off thus My Passenger Wheel Bent Back and the car fell on top of the week, thus bending up my fender and ripping out my axle. So now the car had to get towed to the Mechanic's shop. Now I need a New Axle, New Upper Control Arm and Lower Knuckle (Both Come with the Ball Joints Pre Installed, and Need Fender Repair work). So the car has been in the shop for the past week waiting for parts. I should have it back by Tommrow, providing the parts arrive today. Let you know what the damage is, minus the fender cause I am having the Entire Body work done on the car in Spring, you know minor dings and chips, so i will wait for winter to be over and get all of that fun stuff done.

Sucks to be me this week I guess.

Did it break as a result of not being installed correctly? Or just bad luck?

I think just bad luck but from what I hear is that when you lower the car you add more stress to the ball Joints.

the ball joint holds the upper control arm to the knuckle with one nut and a cotter pin. did they change your ball joint? was it a camber correction or new oem style?

If there was a recall on the ball joint then you can still get the $$$$ back for that from the dealer if you use Acura parts, happenned to me for the rear hubs. One went bad, had it replaced and then found out 2 weeks later was recall. Sent a letter to Acura, the re-imbursed for part, labour AND the tow! Then I took it in for the other side and they did BOTH again!! FREE!!

If you guys have a print out of this recall it would be greatly appreciated. Cause I am having the mechanic use original Acura Parts that I had ordered from AHMotor.com it is an actual Acura and Honda parts supplier and repair shop. If anything I could bring all my receipts since I keep them.

But like I said if you have a copy of the recall I would deeply appreciate it.

Thanks in advance guys.

I have a print out of the re-call of when i went to the dealer and asked about the exhaust... mine had already been taken care of but when i get home i can scan it... you can also take your VIN number to the Acura Dealer and have them put it into the computer and it will come out there if your car has had it or not... In your situation that your car hasn't gotten them... if it has then ...

Spooky: I'll need one too!! thanks! the thing is, i had my ball joints replaced for free years ago b/c the guy told me it was a recall. today i had my brake pads replaced and there were oil spots on top of my rotors. the guy said my "cv joints" need replacement. are ball joints and cv joints the same thing?? are cv joints covered under warranty? I just know emission warranty last for 150k..

oh and someone mentioned that they heard if you drop your car, cv joints are at risk? this could be the case here.

Yeah the recall says ball joints need replacement and they have been taken care of on my car before i even got it... now the thing is i can't find the print out... : i have papers all over my car from trying to find it and still can't find the printout... damn it... i don't think the cv joints are the same as the ball joints though... I'll post pics right now...

Edit: Pics...

I know its dirty under my car but it rains a lot and there are a lot of crop feilds i need to go around... i'll clean later...

hope that helps...

pretty sure you dont need to replace the cv boot unless it looks dry, cracked or worn.

well that black rubber busted and there is like 2 drops of oil on top of my rotor. i asked the mechanic if i just drive it like that until i have the money, will it be okay? he said that i should do it asap b/c once dirt starts to stick to that dripping oil part, it'll act like sand paper and grind everything! so yeah..as ken said it is essential =o(

Must be changed immediatly if worn, torn, or grease is exposed...

lol... actually, it won't act like sand paper... once the grease (not oil...lol) drys up due to the heat or dirt etc... it will just freeze up while you are driving... they are bearings inside the boot... worst case scenerio, your wheel will freeze up making your turn towards that side and make you slam into the nearest object (wall, concrete barrier, cars etc...) or it can come completely off because it is the so called "axel"... then you will need to replace the entire "axel" with bearings and such... etc...

As soon as i found out i had them changed immediatly... I didn't even ask them what the labor and stuff would cost... i just said... CHANGE THEM!!!...

Edit/update:
To tell you the truth everyone on this forum should just double check them... it might look like your breakes are throwing a lot of dust out but it really is just dirt building up on top of the grease...
