Automatic Car Starter ?

I was thinking of getting an automatic car starter installed in my 1998 2.5TL. Any thoughts? Problem areas or products I should be aware of in case someone feeds me a line at the store?

Thanks.

that's a fairly common add-on for people in cold cities. i have compu star install. the only thing you have to be careful is make sure the technician knows how to by-pass your factory alarm, so your factory alarm won't go off when the engine starts. and you don't have to go back.

You are selecting between a starter or alarm/starter combo, deciding on the range, a 1 way or 2 way remote. You can get a lot of info at a&b, future shop, and canadian tire. then you can actually purchase the device from car shops, they usually have promotions right about now.

if you park outdoor, it's a good investment

I have a ProStart on my 3.2, works great!! Only problem I have now is that I gotta change the thermostat! ENGINE warms up fine, but no hot air through the vents until i give it some gas, kinda sucks, but I just haven't had time to get the thermostat changed. Prolly do it this weekend.

i got an autopage alarm. the alarm came with a pager remote, thermometer, and remote start. the only thing that sucks is that when i gets cold the remote start doesnt work, you have to activate the remote start twice

Sounds like you didn't get the tachometer hooked up. If you did, the starter would crank until the car started. Since you didn't, it just cranks for 2 seconds. Your installer went the easy way.

I just had one installed on friday - a Valet (DEI, Viper, etc). I love it - much better range than the old remote, plus the lights flash (including the fogs, since I did the fog rewire).

mine is 2 way, command start/alarm, it's fairly good, good distance, except my sensitivity is too high, alarm goes off when trucks pass by. alarm is also affected when the engine gets wet, control will go temporary unavailable for a few minutes.

Yeah i just turned my sensitivity down, at first i also had the problem of like accidently unlocking mine in my pocket. I found out my alarm could be set to be used on diff cars, so i just change the setting from car to car 2 when i put it in my pocket and problem solved.
