Air Intake

Ok, guys, what does it do for me, changing the Air Intake?

Somebody give me a lesson, here!

Is this the complete set? Unplug and Plug, all set?

Thanks.

Yes, these are really simple to install, 15 minutes tops. The purpose of the kit is to provide more, less turbulent air to your engine. It will increase horsepower and improve throttle response.

Well yeah, I say f*ck paying the $200 too...and that doesnt even include the filter. That's a ridiculous price to pay. Im sorry I forgot to post the instructions while I was home this weekend. I will do it tomorrow so look for it! My air intake (including the filter) ended up costing me only $80.

the reason for a metal or aluminum tubing is because when the engine sucks in air, the stock rubber tubing that we have will tend to shrink, think of a straw. the volume of air then would be decreased and thus less air is able to get to the engine. Another reason is because of the fact that the insides of the rubber tubing is not smooth and has many ridges. these ridges cause turbulence and hence uneven air flow. The goal of the short ram and CAI is to give the engine all the air it needs so that it won't be the bottleneck for performance.

the $200 price tag is a little high. right now i have a cone filter stuck on to my stock rubber tubing. when i get the parts in or when turbo gets back at me for the CAI, that's when my car will go vroom vroom!!!! hehehe j/k

Are there any disadvantages to installing an intake? Does it cause more wear on the engine? Is it easier to get moisture into the engine?

Thanks!

Actaully I think installing an air intake prolong's the life of your engine. The K&N filter chargers may not be street legal..On the side of my box it says "Intended for racing and off-road use only". Its easier to get moisture in your engine when you have the CAI instead of the short ram. Actaully it is recommended that when it is raining you should convert your CAI into short ram. I would just stick with the short ram....On my old Jeep the difference between a short ram and a CAI was negligible. Your other option would be to buy a bypass valve from AEM...They make universal ones that would fit, they run around $25. By the looks of them I think they may restrict airflow a bit, but I dont know for sure.

Oh, I took a look at the air intake HAN posted a link for....The filter sucks, way to small for me. I ordered a K&N filtercharger, it is much longer and has a much larger surface area. Again, with my old Jeep the difference between a 5 inch filter and 9 inch filter was huge....I would highly recommend the bigger one. It was $50 from the auto part store. If anybody wants the part number for it I'll post it tomorrow with the instructions.

I'm psyched on building my own intake, but is it possible to get too much air to your engine and not enough fuel with a short ram?? has anyone had any problems wth their intakes?

Your computer will adjust to it. And the Acura fuel pump is more than capable of providing the right amount of fuel. In fact, Im getting a computer chip to go with the air intake....Those factory chips are too conservative....Looks like I'll be visiting the gas station more often now though :-)
