Unhappy 98TL - Problem with Stock CD Deck

Hey guys,
CD Deck does not play anymore, everytime a CD is inserted, "CPEO" error pops up. Anyone knows that the error is or how to fix it? Don't wanna spend 1k on a new 2Din Alpine deck on an old car... Help.

Thats fairly common on our cars after about 8 or 10 years.. usually means its busted

No need to spend 1000 bucks on a deck.. there are some nice ones for 200 dollars that include a dash kit for the 2 din.

Busted? Is there anyway to replace the laser and not the whole unit? I like the factory unit just because the car looks authentic and elegant for the interior. Though I do mind putting 1k on an Alpine but I think the new deck would still look out of place since our cars are old. And I definitely don't want to put in a 1din unit and make the car's interior look tacky even with the 2din conversion kit. What's a guy to do when this car runs so well (110K already)?

Nakamichi and Mcintosh make some excellent headunits that are black with tasteful white lettering. You'd get a great system with that.. just a thought.

Yeah, some headunits look pretty classy along witht he TL, and just because something takes up the double din spot doesn't mean it will look crappy

My car has the same problem before then I went to the dealer and they gonna fix it for a day or two to. It will probably cost you less than 200. Or just buy an ipod and a cassette adaptor then you can listen as many songs as you want.

I know what you mean with authencity but i strongly dont recommend you working with the factory deck, quite simple, it has been proven to be eventually faulty.

Mine did the same thing. What you need to do is easy. Take the unit out and take the top off.You will see the eye and everything.Take a q-tip and rubbing alcohol, clean the eye and let it dry.DO NOT UNPLUG IT . If you do you will the code to reset it.
