97 2.5 TL -- keyless?

I recently purchased a used 97 2.5 TL. It didn't come with a keyless remote.

I'm wondering,
1) How do I find out if it originally came with keyless entry?
2) If it did, is it just a matter of getting a compatible remote
and programming it?
3) If it didn't originally have keyless entry, are there aftermarket kits
available and roughly how much should I expect to have to fork out?

Thanks.

I also just bought a 97 2.5 TL. Apparently the 2.5 did not come with keyless remote, however the 3.2 did. I checked at the dealership and they used to make a factory keyless remote for the 2.5 but they no longer carry it. I bought a keyless entry system from Crutchfield ($69) and installed it. It works, however, It does not activate the factory alarm system, and if you do activate the alarm either by locking the car with the key or holding out on the inside door handle while pressing the lock switch on the door, and then use the remote to unlock the car, the alarm will go off.

I would like to be able to use the keyless entry to activate and deactivate the alarm as well. Does anybody have any ideas or experience with this?

You'll have to get a module that has an output for a factory alarm. Most alarms and remote starters have this functionality, and since you can get a remote starter for the price you paid for your keyless entry, that would be the way to go. It is a simple on wire hookup that sends a signal to the factory unit to tell it when you lock or unlock the doors. I would double chek that your keyless entry doesn't have this functionality since it really should for that price!!

Keyless entry became standard on the 2.5 for 1998 only.

To onerocketdog...If your 2.5 TL has the factory keyless alarm...its located under the glove department...its a black module...To arm and disarm the system u can connect your new alarms lock and unlock wire to a Gray(-) the factory arm wire located on a 10 pin gray connector in the passenger side kick panel and other wire is a Green/Black(-) the factory disarm wire...that way u when u arm/disarm ur new alarm it also controls the factory one at the same time....hope this helps

I would just get an aftermarket alarm. I think as long as u have powerdoor locks u can get keyless entry. I think they charge u a little extra for a relay to make it work. Plus I think the new alarm is better then stock.
Also if you want auto start is great, since we have auto climate control once u start ur car its on. Hot days instant AC, cold days heat is on when ur car is warming up. BEST option I put in.
