96 2.5Tl Intermittent Brake fail

Hi all-
My '96 TL's brakes fail intermittently. The pedal goes to the floor like if the brake pump was not working. Brought to mechanics but nobody knows what it can be - of course, when I can get the car there it is working perfectly...

It seems to occur on congestion trafic or warm weather but I may be imagining this because it has happen in other conditions also.

Thanks in advance for any help

Mario

Common problem and is usually the master cylinder, can get a good replacement for about 100 bucks plus labor, just replaced mine a couple months ago with same diagnostic and just like new.

Definitely master cylinder issue. I had the same problem and it cost me $110 to take care of it.

Oh, and don't forget to bleed your brakes afterwards. You can buy a one-man bleeder from Kragen or AutoZone and do it yourself but it's a pain so have someone help you.

Had the same issue...once in a while, usually on hotter days, the pedal would slowly go to the floor a light, or when braking for more than a few seconds. Replaced master cylinder and it's as good as new.

NOTE: While you're at it, bleed the entire brake system until you have nothing but new fluid in there. Brake fluid does retain water over time and can slowly corrode brake parts over time.
