2.5 vs 3.2
Hello All Im back after a few hard months of flying over millions of acres of forests bored to death looking for smoke or fire.
So My buddy challeged me to a head to head race His 97 2.5 vs my 98 3.2.
Will he be quicker on take off but Ill catch up on the top end?
We're doing this on a safe quarter mile dead end so we should be okay.
This will probably happen this week.
Ill post pics or vids if I can figure out how.

In perfect test conditions, you'll be ahead of him the whole time.

There has been a few topics on this and from what I read, the 2.5 has a slight advantage b/c of the weight diff but um...i think after a certain rpm or so, the 3.2's extra cylinder will have the advantage.
altitude: cheat a little bit by doing a fresh oil change, take out your spare tire/speaker box or any extra weight, run on a 1/4 tank of gas or less, be sure your tires are properly inflated, clean your air filter, and um...roll up your windows with the A/C off?

Curb weight of the 2.5 is 3,252 lbs. Weight of the 3.2 is 3,461.
But the 2.5 has 18.4 lbs per HP and the 3.2 has 17.3 lbs per HP. In terms of lb/ft of torque, the disparity is even bigger.
Plus the max torque of the 2.5 comes at a low 3,900. Not much of a highend runner.
I don't see the 2.5 winning or even getting a jump. Certainly not from a stop.

the 3.2 runs the quarter mile in 16.29s and the 2.5 runs it in 17.20s
you'll lose but it wont be by a huge amount.
if you take TLBaller's advice about saving weight (take out spare tire and run with not a lot of gas, use 1/8 tank, not 1/4 ) and you get a faster reaction than he does, you'll still lose probably hah but the gap between the two of you will be pretty close.

No holding the brake down to build up RPMs, as that'll just retard your ignition timing, and forget about the gas. Even half a tank is ok, since rule of thumb: 100LBs only shaves off 0.1 seconds in the 400m. Half-throttle right from the get-go, and a half second later full. By the time you're done with first and second gear engages, you'll be up ahead by about 1/2 a car with no chance of the UA2 reeling you back in as you will still be pulling hard. Good luck and if you launch the way I'm telling you, I'm sure the events will pan out identically to what I've just described.
~Cheers~
P.S. Gas is much lighter than water. So go figure potential weight savings from that. BTW, our second gear is pretty damn strong!

Seems this is turning out to be a real gunfight. Hes talkin' shit and looks like theres a box of cigars and a bottle of something for the winner.

Yes, welcome back and shoot those cigars over! I hate shit talkers... Like the NA MKIV that thought he was crazy fast because he had a Supra, even after I took him by a car and a half.

Yes, NA Auto, bone stock. Well, not really, it had one mod: driven by a douchebag, punk 18 y.o. kid (-50HP).

P.S. I've got some vids (not of the Poopra), maybe I'll post them up. I had launching issues which have recently been solved, .

The weekend looks like a washout here with heavy rains until Sunday evening so even if I do get out it may be dark.
Heres what Im doing to prep:
Change oil
New air filter
Tire pressure :36 frnt 32 rear
remove spare
As you all know I fly fire patrol and spotter flights so I have access to
110 Octane gasoline. Its not lead free but Low lead. so Im thinking 10 gallons of that juice with a bit of acetone to help it along wont hurt either. I just hope my engine doesnt grenade on me and make me have a bad day.
Aside from that I wont be doing much. But Im sure my competition will be prepared too.
ANy tips will help.
The best tip will receive a wonderful keith's ale mug. mailed to you from me.
just like this one without the beer of course...

No 110 octane. It won't do anything for power as a higher octane is NOT a power-booster, it's just a detonation guard (simplest way I can think of right now). If you have your tyres at 36PSI, you'll lose traction off the line. We're FWD and we need all the help we can get since we have physics working against us (weight transfer). Desired, we can't just floor it because of the weight transfer issues, and test it out. You'll see that from a dig, partial throttle, then full accelerates much faster than all out flooring. There will be a lag of about 1 second before we start to pull if we floor it. Back to the tyres. 32PSI for the rear is actually very good, and you might actually see better traction if you flipped those numbers: 32F 36R. Ideally have it set at 28F or even 26PSI, but nothing below. Harder tyres in the rear might help keep some of the weight to the good wheels. I tried to make a vid of me launching last night, but I couldn't get a good shot because I was half asleep on my way home, hehe. I'll try again today.

Put 36 PSI rear and 30 front. Half throttle the first second, then apply full force. Turn off TCS if you have it.

Oh yeah, here's a clip for everyone else of my friend and I. He's in a 98 Accord V6 Coupe with AEM cold-air, and exhaust, full suspension upgraded (by me, hehe). Vid's taken by HIS love interest while she was riding in MY car, . That was his handicap, since I had the added weight. Sorry for the dark vid, and the camera not focusing too much on the other car as it was on me for some reason, .

Any updates on you and your m8, Altitude? Or is the weather still shitty? Tomorrow I'll try to have a daytime pull for better vid quality, or I'll have someone record in a chase car. As I was telling my friend, the '98-'02 Accord V6 Coupe is my baseline for modding, and it looks like I'm going to need a new baseline... Current Accord V6 anyone? Maybe this one, then when I'm tired of that one, maybe this one...
~Cheers~
P.S. About that second one, I kinda wanted to keep it sedan to sedan, but... whatever.
