2.5 TL vs. BMW 325i
sup guys, my friend just got a new bimmer. just wondering if we can take the bimmer. i figure both have a 2.5L engine so it'd be pretty interesting how our car matches up with the "ultimate driving machine"

i don't know. it would be a good match up though. i think that the BMW would take us though. but i love my TL cause it's a sleeper. it can really roll out when it wants to.

what kinda attitude is that?
i'm sure our cars aren't that slow. i don't know the exact stats about the 325, but it can't be that far from ours.

200 lbs lighter
13 more hp
11 more lbs of torque
5 speed manual
Throw intake and exhaust on your car and it might be close, but I doubt it. With a 325 that has a manual tranny I think the 2.5TL will get smoked. I guess it all depends on the driver though.

according to C&D, 0-60 for 2001 325i is 7.0 seconds(manual). for 1997 3.2 TL, it's 8.1 seconds. The best 0-60 time i have read in car mags for 2.5 TL is about 8.5 seconds. if you think your chance is good, go ahead.

Hey Jerry,
My two cents is NOT to race a girl in a bmw325i :-)
You will never hear the end of it.
I have a 528i w/ sport package and that rear wheel drive really grips the road as the weight moves toward the rear of the car during hard acceleration.
If she has the sports package, the her stock wheels are 225/45 - 17" wheels with a stiff suspension.
If you've added any mods to your car and end up racing her anyway. Make sure you don't tell her about the asc/dsc (traction). If she does NOT turn it off, then it's to your advantage since the engine will lower the RPM via cutting off fuel and/or break one of her wheels if the rear wheels slip during the race.
Also make sure she keeps the gear in "D" and not 3 since in 3 the tranny will shift at hgher RPM. With ASC/DSC turned off and in D3... it can haul and corner well.
You know, I'd like to hear if anyone has taken a late model BMW with their first gen TL here.
Also, how about driving down to LA with your Nav next time :-)
just kidding.

an automatic will take about 7.5 seconds to 60. if you must race her, be prepared to accept the consequence of losing to her. i disagree on not telling her about traction control and set transmission to 3rd gear. if you want to race, be fair to yourself to her.
