Question 2.5 front rotors

This weekend I am tackling the Oh so FUN task of replacing the front rotors on my car. I have a few questions:
1. Does the spindle lock nut really need to be replaced?
2. When removing the lock nut do I turn it clockwise or counter-clockwise? (dont want to tighten the nut and make more work for myself)

Thanks in advance, Jordan

wow you should if you dont know that!! lefty loosy righty tighty, its a 36mm nut and yes you need to replace it. but i hope your not planning on just doing the fronts a piece of cake, because its not. you need to remove both front arms and take them to a shop to press the rotors off and on

The reason I asked which way to loosen it was because on some cars its the opposite, also I am having my uncle help me with this and I just wanted to be completely sure of everything before I head down to his home tomorrow. I do know about having to remove the arms, also when I was looking at my manual there are 4 bolts that hold the bearing onto the arm and the rotor should come off right around the bearing.

yes, you remove those 4 bolts after you have the arm off. taking those bolts off wont help though it still needs to be pressed off. to remove the arm i started at the bottom and used a jack and a ball joint tool to pop them out. be careful not to cut the boots. you should replace the axle nut also, it only cost a couple $$. thats really all there is to it. i would suggest using an air impact gun for all the bolts

your welcome, are you doing the rears? if so make sure you have the special tool to compress the rear calipers

I actually already replaced the rears, they were a pain in the butt at first then I found out that the retaining screws are unneeded, so I just drilled them out. I am having trouble though with the e-brake return spring on the RR caliper is there a specific spot there that I should lubricate, and what lubes would work best?

yeah, the rears are a piece of cake. did you re-install the e-brake cable correctly? as for lube i would use white lithium grease if you find it necessary or a very thick grease so it will last longer

I never uninstalled the e-brake cable. But it has been this way since I bought the car, I bought the car after it was sitting for a year and both rear brakes were locked up and they were very rusty, thus because of that I avoid using the e-brake. I will go put some grease on later to avoid having my father use the e-brake and heating the wheel up.... again.

if the rears are shot replace them, greasing them up wont unseize them. and your suppossed to remove and releive the e-brake cable when you do your rear's
