Window regulator went out ...

fixing it and was wondering if there is any point inspecting the other 3, or are these events pretty random (depending on how much wear and tear the window went thru)? That is surprising as by wear and tear measure, the front windows should go out first, but the rear passenger one went.

If the other ones work ok, I wouldn't bother inspecting the other 3 just for the heck of it. I mean what are you going to find if they work??? Unless you want to pre-emptively pay for and replace the other 3, why bother?

It's kind of counter-intuitive, but my experience was the same as yours, the ones that were less-used (rears) broke before the ones in the front. At least in my case, it was caused by a plastic piece in the regulator assembly that seems to get brittle and break. If that is the weak point, then you can see why time would play more of a factor than usage. That's what I experienced anyways...

+1. Right rear went on mine a few weeks back. Same plastic pulley piece. I guess it is comforting to know that the rears going first is "normal". I would wait untit the others break before replacing them.

My right rear went out as well. It did give me a warning in the winter it would stick when it was very cold outside. Finally 3 weeks ago heard the motor running but window stopped working

I had the same problem. I just returned from a guy who repairs these regulators. My rear right went out too and after doing some searching I found the guy & he is right in Brooklyn, NY. He rebuilt my entire unit for $65 because I brought it there (no shipping). Here is the website.

I will definitely try them out for the next one. Interestingly, the rebuilt right rear for RLs are sold out.

Hey 9000revs. I noticed your ID. I've owned SAABs for years starting with 99EMS up to my "current" 95 9000CSE w/202k miles. (member of SAABnet for years) I just joined this site as I'll be buying a family member's 2004RL next month so I wanted to introduce myself.

Judging from my own experience and other RL chats, I would say count on replacing all of them except for, ironically, the drivers window. It was a problem with these cars. I do not recall of they fixed this in the 1999 improvements or not, but the 96-98 were the same.

Which one failed first for you? Right rear?

Back online after Irene "visited" us.
I hear you. Fun car. My Brother-in-law just sold his 2001 S2000. Red with a body kit. W/61k miles, think he got $12k for it. Top needed some work though.
