Where is this oil/fluid coming from?
I have been smelling something that smells like brakes when i pull into the garage. There isn't anything wrong with the brakes and they are performing normal.
I was under the car today for some reason looking around. Ifound this thick dried liquid that looks like dried oil. I can't see where it may be coming from and am not sure if it's oil. All fluid levels have remained the same but now i will need to keep watching.
Any suggestions?

That could be possible. I changed the oil about 1000 miles ago so in that sense it is fresh. I know what oil smells like when it burns and this smells like brakes.
I don't know how the hell i am going to track this leak down. When i took off the lat oil filter i was wondering what the hell the previous mechanic put on it. I think i need to check the diff level if it's possible.
It may be a dealer visit for something like this.

I believe Ive seen this before. There is a small plascti sensor or something behind the timing belt cover and it melts and looks like that.
I dont remember where I read about it, but thats probably what you see.

I could see the trail of plastic melting all the way down to the bottom of the oil pan and it is coming from that sensor that I was originally talking about. It will take some kind of cleaner (chemical) to clean it off so I just left it and closed it all back up and it still works fine.
PS: Doing this requires taking off all three acc belts, all three timing covers, crank pulley, balancer shaft belt, timing belt, left cam pulley, and face plate behind cam pulley!
So I do not reccomend doing this just to have a peak at it!

The black goo is the epoxy potting material on the electroninc timing contol module that is behind the timing belt. I had mine replaced with the timing belt. All that did was provide a new supply of black goo for the garage floor. The new modual is no better than the old one and the old one does not stop working just because the epoxy melts. Leave it alone!

rep points for you! If everything is going to be fine like what you quoted, i'll just leave it alone.
I noticed three drops of black stuff on my garage floor and had to take a look. It didn't remind me of any fluids but nothing else really made any sense.

What you’re seeing is melting resin coating on the backside of the Camshaft Position Sensor/Cam Sensor. This is not unusual and believe it or not will not cause any problems, except of course a cruddy looking drip on your garage floor. Eventually it will stop dripping. If you take it to your Acura dealer he should confirm this and try to convince you to install a new one. As long as your RL is running fine don't do it. The cam sensor basically tells you plugs when to fire at the right time.
