I have 2002 RL that is having issues with transmission.It started with this cold and it surges occasionally.I believe from 2nd to 3rd and usually when there is traffic so I cant run higher speed.What happens is you push gas and when it needs to shift it jumps to 3000-3500 RPM at which point I release gas pedal,give it a second and press again and then shifts.
So I was gonna do ATF change since its been good 50K miles but wanted to know proper procedure for 3X drain/fill since my mechanic is puzzled.
Also someone said that proper way to check fluid level is to run car,turn off and then check it unlike other cars when you check it running.Is that true.

Some other info.I had rack and pinion replaced year ago after which I got VSA light with triangle and ABS which I am trying to troubleshoot and fix,also have clogged EGR so I dont know if that might be causing problem with it.

 

For the vsa light trouble, did you try the vsa switch,next to the cruise control?

As for transmission oil change, go to the Honda parts department and only use factory fluid. For the 3x method. Drain and replace with the same amount of fluid. Change every 3,000 miles until you third fluid change. My car took 4.5 quarts.

The drain and fill should do away with 1st to second click noise. It should remedy your issue, idk? You can also reset the ECU (disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, then re connect) .

While you are at it, you can replace and fill the brake and steering fluid with Honda fluid only. Use a turkey baster to suck out the old fluid ( leave a little bit of fluid), and replace with fresh fluid. It's cheap insurance!
