thoughts on this RL

Hi All

I'm an owner of a CL and have been looking at getting a 2002+ RL. I just checked one out that has 130K miles, fully loaded and in decent shape. The SRS light is always on and the inside passenger door handle will not open the door. Other than that, it rides well (although much slower than the CL). Do you all think $7500 is a decent price? I know the blue book prices are around this range. This will be a freeway car for my usage and very little city driving as i just need this to get to/fro work.

Are you 2002-2004 RL owners happy with yours?

Thanks

I wouldn't do it.

You can get a low mileage 2002 RL for a few thousand more and these cars are usually very well cared for and tend to have been driven by professionals or the elderly.

I have a 2002 RL and I got mine in the Fall of 2007 with only 21,000 miles on it. Currently have 45K. I had an SRS light come on, the passenger side position detector was malfunctioning. Dealer replaced it for no charge.

I'm very happy with mine. Its smooth and quiet, excellent highway car. Reasonably good steering feel. The ride is a little stiff but pays off with little body roll.

The seats are VERY comfortable and the visibility is excellent. My only gripe is lack of audio options. The CD changer is in the trunk and its very difficult to find a headunit that wouldn't look tacky. I'm thinking of adding an aux-in and an iPod with the stock headunit.

If you can, grab an '04 since they have XM and a 6 disc in dash.

This probably will get moved to the RL section, but I say no. Really high mileage on an 02 means it was well used.

I say save up a bit and get an 04. Nicer looking.

I wouldn't do it.

Just save a little bit more and get a newer model.

:shakehead Don't do it. The the issues you pointed out leads me to believe that this car's maintenance has been neglected. With the miles it has already with presumed neglect, it won't be long before you start having all kinds of mechanical problems such as suspension, brakes, possibly engine problems too. Keep looking.

Assuming that the car is in good shape and the timming belt/water pump have been changed this is a decent price. If the TB/WP and Tune up is not done that will set you back between $1200 - $1500 which would move the total cost up tp $9K range.

Its a great cruiser but because of 4AT it will not be very fuel efficient at higher cruising speed. I have found it to be most effecient at back road 45 - 55 MPH range.

I absolutlely love this... infact I moved from a 2000 RL to 2002 RL and appreciate the changes in 02+ RL. Ofcourse the 04 RL is great with the upgraded interior.
