I'd like to know what needs to be done in terms of wiring/harnesses.
Hoping to keep the stock speakers and amp if at all possible.

you want to try and put a cd player in the regular tape player slot?
your car has nav right?
Cause if you do forget about trying to fit a double din unit in place of the screen. The nav screen itself is about 2 to 2-1/2 inches thick and there is no more space beyond that behind it.
the non nav guys radio is at the bottom for a reason and that's because that's where there is space.
you could probably use a regular half din radio in the stock tape player spot. Bad thing is you would lose your cd changer. I think there was an adapter somewhere for some alpine headunits to retain your oem changer. Don't quote me on that as I'm not 100% sure.
as far as wiring kit the main harness I think was the regular old Honda harness. (used in Hondas/Acuras from the mid late 80's to about 97-98) It also has 2 extra plugs if you have navigation. One for command prompts from nav and the other for the onstar.
I believe the stock radio's speaker leads to the BoSE amp is regular 4 ohm but I could be wrong.
If it is just a refular 4 ohm load lead you should be able to swap in an aftermarket deck with no problems.
I personally decided against replacing the oem stuff simply for the thieves aspect of it and with the use of a JL Cleansweep I can pretty much make the stock stuff work like an aftermarket system.
what kind of radios with what features were you looking at?

I'd just like an ipod connection. HD radio someday would be nice too.
I'm thinking of getting this:

I'd like to keep everything else intact, since I'd like the Bluestar to work (eventually, another topic)

for the ipod give me till the end of Jan. I'm going to buy one and double check that it will work with the navi radio through the cd changer port.
I haven't really researched HD radio as a stand alone unit. Do they make those?
if so an aux input through the cd changer port should also work for that.
hit me up about the Bluestar if your having any issues with it.

ah I see.
well you could always just do the casette adapter with the 3.5 plug in the meantime if you need it asap.
that's what I'm using for now with my phones/mp3 players until I install the rest of my system.
the wires always a pain though so I always put it away as soon as I'm done using it. Lol
oh and be very careful when taking the center console out if tour going to use the fm modulator one. There's clips across the top and if your not careful they'll break.

I do have an aftermarket head unit in my car. When i bought my dash kit, the beatsonic one, it came with a wiring harness that wired up to the one provided by pioneer. Im not sure what year your RL is, but i know beatsonic makes kits for the 1st gen rl, im not sure about the 1.5 gen with the wood grain surrounding the factory stereo. A for keeping the factory amp, i believe there are adapters out there for this. Personally i bypassed my amp, and took it out. I plan on adding a seperate amplifier for my speakers in the near future. i hope this helped.

I have a XM radio wired in but then it attaches via the old tape deck adapter. The antenna goes behind the dash and the power is from the cigarette lighter, routed behind the wood and then back out again next to the XM unit. But the audio signal is carried over the old tape deck adapter, great but not excellent audio quality. But then again, you are using an ipod, so you are already settling.
I'm actually removing it and trying to figure out if I'm better of just cutting the wires and pushing them behind the console or actually disasembeling. Since I have both ends of the power hanging out it's not like I would be cutting a live 12V wire. Just throwing more junk back there.
In the end, I don't see the advantage of having a wire hanging out from behind that you can't hide when you could use the tape deck adapter.

I believe that the beatsonic kit doesnt fit your RL. It was the most expensive piece of plastic i have ever purchased....at 180 shipped
And after looking on the beatsonic website i cannot find anything about my kit anymore.

Sorry guys, 6 months late on this. Has anyone successfully installed an Aux port in to the CD changer 8 pin port for a 2000 RL with nav? I ordered a kit from isimple but the 8 pin connecter was different than my radio 8 pin din hole, in other words it doesn't fit because the pin configuration is different. Any help would be great!

The pin configuration is different, but the connections are the same. At least I think so. Ive been slacking on this, but I believe in te end it will be as simple as splicing the correct connector on or simply cutting the round 8 pin din connection off and simply plugging the specific wires into the 12 pin.
I just havent purchased the ipod adapter I was supposed to and since my system build requires a whole lot more parts I havent done this.
If someone would send me one I could get it done though.

Sorry man for the late response but I just wanted clarification on whether it was the same type of connections as far as inputs and also how many preamp oputputs it offers and the preamp voltages.
