Smile Stay Tuned, Aux Port To Tape Player Coming Soon

Hi everyone,

So, I got a great deal a while back on the entire control deck (nav/radio/climate) and it's been laying around for the better part of a year now.

So I took the radio apart and have identified what I think needs to be done to the tape deck in order for it to be changed to an aux port.

I'm hoping this will work because it should allow me, or anyone else who does this, to retain the CD changer functionality.

The only catch is that by doing this you essentially stop the tape player from functioning as it was designed, so if you want to ever play tapes, this will not be for you. I know I never ever have I ever used it, haha.

I hope to have this complete by tomorrow, and hopefully a DIY within the next day or two... or three.

Good luck with the mod! Does the tape deck need any special signal to be activated? Are you pulling parts from the spare radio? I'd buy a button off you if you are.

Yup, there is a switch in the module that needs to basically be pressed out. But, that will all be evident in the DIY if I can get this to work.

Had a set back. I unsoldered the joints to the motor to test the aux port. I kept getting a TAEr (Tape Error), so I went back with the wires to the motor. Plugged it in and the thing started smoking, must have soldered across one of the joints. Motors out, rethinking on how to proceed.

Also, initial tests were only intermittently successful. I would hear the audio, but it would skip. I will post several pictures of my progress later tonight, maybe to get some fresh eyes on this. We'll see. Or I may just set it down for a few hours.

For some reason this feels like I've read about it before. I think I saw someone else tried to mod their cassette player as well and they used a resistor to simulate the motor or something. If your audios skipping it could be a bad ground

I'm pretty sure all my grounds are okay.

This is just starting to get pretty frustrating. I may just try to beat Old Hatch to making a switch that can be used for the CD Changer/Aux.
