Replacing Stereo on 2000 w/Nav

Sorry, I couldn't find a thread for this, but if I ever find the answer, I promise to publish a complete how-to guide on the web so no one ever asks again ...

I have hooked up an aftermarket stereo in a 2000RL with Nav. No sound comes out - I assume there is a mute or something with an incomplete circuit.

The clues:
-There is a wire coming out of the OEM stereo that is labeled "tel mute" - yellow & red striped - do I need to do something with it? It's currently open.
-There was an 8p and a 12p connector coming out of the OEM stereo - I've done nothing with those - what are they for?
-Other wires that I have not connected anything to are labeled: "FR R/C", "Illumi Cont", "Illumi", "SWD +B"

Do I neeed to jumper some of these wires? Or, is there a wire coming out of the Nav that I need to clip or jumper?

Thanks!

So I put a jumper between the "tel mute" wire and the yellow "always on" power wire and that solved it. Apparently there is a relay that needs power to it to close the speaker circuits.

However, I can't get the thing to turn off when I take the key out - (Wish I had some instructions...)
