replacement catalytic converter for 2000

Hi everybody, I'm a first time poster, so bear with me please...

I own a 2000 RL. The last time I took it in for service, I was told that the cat had gone and that, while the car would run fine, it would not pass inspection. The dealer also told me that it would cost $2500 to replace, which I found outrageous. So here's my question: Can anybody recommend a decent replacement part that I can purchase online? Also, how difficult is it to do the actual work of installing the part? Thanks so much.

$800 to $1000 is more likely to be the real cost.

Try asking an Acura dealership to cover it under "Goodwill" since its an emissions item.

Goodwill is something a dealership does for free as a gift. USUALLY its because you or a family member has been there before and paid for their services.

Not sure if that will help you though.

You could also ask how long the emissions warranty is on the car. It might still be covered.
