pl. excuse, a question about Legend's starting problems

Hi Folks:

Please excuse a question about my 93 Acura Legend (there is not a Legend community as far as I can tell.) Any hits/suggestions welcome.

My 1993 legend has 187,000 miles on it and runs better than my 96 RL. (And has proved to be more reliable overall.) In any event, in the last year or two it has started this trend where once in a while (once every few weeks) it will not start. Crank runs over fine but there seems to be "fire". I have noticed that this is often when there is change in weather, specifically, when humidity changes (either up or down ??) My mechanic says "hard to tell". Car is admittedly old now, and no tune up has been done since 100,000 miles but I was wondering if this means time for a new tuneup or some more targetted, specific change? Don't want to do more repairs than needed as I see another 1-2 years most out of this car, though, as I said, i like it more than the 96 RL that I have.

George.

Sounds like a bad igniter. Honda was famous for that problem back in the day.

I am sorry, but my "igniter" do you mean the ignition coil? I found this info for this part:

30520-PY3-006 COIL, IGNITION (TC-16A) 6 1993 LEGEND $76.63

Also, it appears one needs 6 of these ignition coils, one per spark plug... ouch! And spark plugs are about $15.00 each.

I did not know the Legend had 6 coils. I think I would have a garage look at your car. You might spend more trying to do it yourself. On the older honda's there was an ignition module. Not sure about the Legend.

this sounds very familiar - I had an older Legend also and this same problem occured when it was hot and/or humid out. Car would just crank and crank but would not start - if I let the car sit for 20 mins - it then most times starts fine afterward. Turns out to be a bad fuel relay - sometimes connects and sometimes not. I replaced it and the car started fine everytime afterward and I had the car for another 3 or 4 years without ever experiencing this problem again. I think the relay was about $70 from the dealer and is located under the drivers side dash near the steering column. Its has 3 blade prongs (from what I recall) and pulls right out and you just plug the new one right back in. Good luck !

I agree it sounds like it may be your relay.Do a search and you should find some info on how to repair it at little cost.
