Oil leak after timing belt change

I took my 99 RL (235K miles) in for the timing belt maintenance recently - it was time. It was leaking oil a bit from the front of the engine, and I assumed that the front seals were failing. After the work was done, the shop told me that my "oil pump seal" was also leaking and that the only way to fix it was to pull the engine. They also said that since they cleaned the crud up, it might appear to leak even worse.

Well the engine is now leaking more oil than it did before having the work done. It only leaks when running, but always leaves a little puddle wherever I park.

I can find no information on this "oil pump seal" diagnosis and wonder if I am being given accurate information. I have used the shop in the past and they seem reputable.

Any ideas?
