OEM CD unit "December 2000" - work in '97?

Any good resources for upgrading current 'base' stereo head (cassette only) to CD - maybe even to navigation?

I found a CD/cassette OEM unit from an RL (unsure of precise year - 00 or 01), with the ID 39101-S3M-A130-M1 and stamped "DECEMBER 2000" on it - any chance it'd work in my 97 RL?

thx.

same deal?

Hey! I also own a 97 RL. Nothing really is wrong with my radio/climate control unit, or any of the switches....I know how to take apart the car, etc...and so I have a question, which I think that the first person asked in this thread. I'm not quite sure if he means the exact same thing as I'm about to ask. I would like to know if I took a WHOLE unit....like, the A/C vents, climate control module, stereo head unit, and foglight/rear defrost switches all from a 99RL (complete with trim bezel, etc!), and popped it into my 97 RL, completely changing it out. The plugs (both male and female) look exactly the same, and in cars I've been in, it looks exactly the same size as in a 97...so theoretically it should fit right? But, I don't want to fork out 160 bucks and then if it doesn't fit, be unable to return it. I think that the bezel in particular would be nice in my car. I know that just the RADIO head-unit is a different size in a 99 vs 97...because in a 99 it's attached to a whole bezel, but in a 97 you can take it apart into the 3 components: radio, foglight/defrost switch panel, and climate control on the top, and then the A/C vents are separate too.

Does anybody have any experience with this kind of thing? Will this work for sure? Should I do it? I can get the radio code from the dealer no prob, and I assume it should work since it's virtually the same system. *sigh*. Can someone help me out?
