Intake Question for 2002 RL
Intake Question for 2002 RL
I want to put an intake system on my '02 RL that'll be both functional and sound a little beefier. I went to a race shop and was told that I couldn't take out the box because I'd get error messages on the instrument panel or something.
So, is there something that can be done so I could at least take the box out and not have problems?

You won't get error messages, and if you get a CEL, you can just reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal for 30 seconds. Simplest thing to do would be to get a drop-in K&N filter, and remove the resonator at the bottom of the intake. It'll look stock but will have a deeper growl under load, plus the filter is more efficient.

It's basically that jumble of tubes that lead nowhere. Everything below the box where the filter goes is basically for sound tuning. There's more to it than that but I won't get into it here. A 10mm socket is all you need to do this. BTW, had you gone to a real "race shop" they would've known better than to tell you it's going to give you a CEL. I think you went to a "rice shop" instead, hehe.
