Installing a Amplifier in the trunk. Power???
Good Evening!
I have a 1998 RL that is causing me to lose my patience. I am trying to pull a 8 guage power wire from the inside of the car to the Batt. However, I can't seem to find a place to run the cable thru the firewall. No Gromets, no holes nothing!!
Has anyone out there installed an amp in the trunk and run power to it?? How did you get it done.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well, on mine which same yr as yours, I had to drill a hole plenty big and file the edges so wouldnt eventually cut thru the wire or better yet buy a rubber grommet for it and done!....a good place is to the left of the steering wheel column...which is sorrounded with a rubber boot as it goes out the firewall. Good Luck.
8 Gauge? That seems fairly small unless it is a smaller amp...I ran 4 gauge through my 02...I forget what size drill bit I used to go through the firewall but I bought a gromet from some store (autozone?) and put that around the edges so the wire wouldn't get cut. Make sure you have light shining through the hole so you know where you are at...
If I were you I would drill for a 4 gauge wire in case you ever up your amp...otherwise you are going to have to re-drill later on. If you plan on keeping the same system, drilling for an 8 gauge would be fine.
You may be able to go to any stereo installer, non-retail(bestbuy, circuit city etc.) and pay them cash to just drill for you if you are comfortable in running the wires yourself. They won't give you a receipt or anything because of liability issues, but it would save you the hardship of figuring it yourself.
Good luck!
