Headlights

Hi, everyone.

So, I was driving to work this morning in my '02 RL when the passenger low beam went out. Maybe 15 minutes into the drive. I initially thought the bulb died, but it was working again this afternoon. I haven't experimented any further but I suspect that the ballast is overheating. What are your thoughts?

Thanks.

Well, after a week of driving driving in the dark for an hour each morning it hasn't happened again.

That is pretty odd. Probably a loose connection or a fray wired.

It happened again on Friday. Flipped lights off and on and they were fine again.

I had the same issue with my 04. The passenger side would be out when I turned on my headlights first thing in the morning. It usually only happened in the cold. I switched the headlights out. Put the driver's side on the passengers side, and vice versa. I wasn't sure if it was a bulb or ballast issue. The headlight has never gone out again. Neither of them. It's been well over a year since I switched them. Still an unsolved mystery......

I am having the same issue with my 99. It actually all happened when I hit a Dog in the road...yeah..I know...I felt awful but there was nothing I could do...It was on a bridge on top of it with no homes in the area. Unfortunately it broke the headlight housing and I think that water getting in there is whats starting to cause the light to shut off at random times. I can flip the switch and the light could go off again in a few minutes or it may stay on for a couple days. My thoughts and experience tells me the ballast is the problem.

My issue turned out to be a poor connection which eventually caused the base of the bulb to melt into the socket.
