My 2000 3.5RL sounds like a diesel on cold mornings. It's not knocking or anything and my mechanic at work said it's nothing to worry about. It sounds like it could be noisy lifters or valves? Is this normal for this motor. It has 137xxx on it and it seams to quiet down as she warms up. Does everybody else's 3.5rl sound like this?

 

Have you checked the motor oil level lately?

 

Oh yea! at every gas fillup. I may have exagerated on the diesel sound a little. It's not nearly as loud as a diesel it just has a similar sound.

 

Its normal on these motors. My engine does the same thing and its in excellent condition.

Does your engine make a "ticking" noise after a cold start?

 

yep that ticking noise is the diesel sound i'm talking about.

 

that ticking will disappear as soon as your engine warms,,,my 2000 had same, even 2002, I think its the "nature of the beast!"
