EGR FLOW Sensor issue

I saw a post on the TL egr flow sensor issue. I have the same problem on a 97 3.5RL.(Code P0401-low flow) Unfortunately I got the warranty extension notice, but have 168K on her so no dice for a dealer repair. I pulled the EGR, cleaned it and removed the EGR to exhaust port tube and cleaned it. I sprayed about a 1/2 can carb cleaner down the intake, but the light came back on again . I manually moved the EGR while engine was running and she started to choke, so I think the valve is working. Suggestions? Dealer said the warranty work could include wires/tuneup up to pulling the intake manifold and cleaning. Not sure what the real issue is. Replace EGR valve? Do tuneup? Pull manifold?

The light may have to be reset, but you definitely want to make sure you don't still have a problem before you do that. It wouldn't hurt to pull the intake manifold and clean it, and I'd consider changing the EGR valve/sensor, knowing that there's a history with this problem. You might not need a tuneup depending on the last time you did one. If it's more than two years, it would be a good idea.

I reset the light a few times and it still comes back on. I figured its cheaper to pull the intake and clean versus $200 bills for the EGR valve. I was just wondering if thats the more likely problem as its EASY to replace the EGR valve.
