Earl's Soon to be Released Projects

Hi everyone,

Here is a teaser picture for my completed project. Haha, it took WAY longer than it should have, but it works flawlessly! I have installed an auxiliary input that DOESN'T compromise the CD player. So, I have a USB plug for the cig lighter (just not in right now), the input, and a discreet switch for switching between disc and iPod. So excited!

Come on Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners!

Projects for tomorrow:

Tomorrow I will finish my moonlight ambiance for the cabin like the third generation TLs have. I was inspired by my dad's car. Excited for that too.

And on a somewhat unrelated note, some of you may know that I have a CB radio in my car. I have a 300W amplifier that I am going to wire up tomorrow, too. The radio comes with only 5W, haha. 6000% gain for the win! And to put that in perspective, in an relatively unobstructed environment (buildings, mountains, etc.) 1W can transmit a distance clearly of about 1 mile. So my range will go from 5 miles to 300! To put that in perspective that will easily reach from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, and it will fall just a little bit short between Los Angeles and Phoenix, and LA and San Francisco.

Nice job! I gotta ask what method did you use? I like the spot for the aux port, close proximity to the driver seat, yet when removed it's probably hard to notice the port.

Also what's moonlight ambiance? I've never heard of it before.

The moonlight thing is a dim blue LED that goes in the ceiling that creates a cool moonlight-type ambiance, if you wave your hand in the air near the center, the light shines on it and makes a nice effect. Also, it puts a little bit of light on the center console area.

Thanks! I just posted it. You may as well add that cig lighter too while you're at it! I love having a cigarette lighter in the car other than the one you have to open the wood up for. I hate opening those things because it makes the console look ugly. OCD, haha. So that was kind of a must for me.

For the amplifier are you going to keep the stock head unit and replace the stock amp so you can upgrade speakers?

No, the amp is for my CB radio! CBs transmit at 4 watts, the amp boosts it to 135. Noting to do with the car's radio.

Ambient Ligthing, done, I'll make a write up tomorrow! Stay tuned! Although the pictures of it in effect don't turn out, I can just show you how the light looks installed.
