Unhappy driver's side door handle

I can't open my 98 RL driver door from inside. Need to open window to get out.

Are any special tools needed to make this repair or can I fix myself with basic mechanics tools?

Best way to take door panel off?

Thanks for any ideas.

Sounds like the linkage attached to the inside door handle fell off - should be fairly simple to fix. Taking the door panel off is also relatively simple - you just need a philips screw driver to take out a few screws and then just pop the door panel off (theres about 10 nylon pop fasteners around the perimeter of the door panel) and lift up the panel to remove it. Afterward, just hang the door panel back on (from the top lip first (into the window channel) , press it downward and then lightly punch the snaps back onto the door frame and put the screws back on. Test the door handle, windows and lock for proper operation and your done. Good luck !

Or not. Happened on my Legend and it cost 400 for a new color keyed door handle and internal parts, the linkage did fall off, but because a piece attached to the door handle internally broke off.
