Can a 2001 RL with 100,000 miles make it cross-country?
Hi everyone,
I could really use your car expertise. My grandmother wants to pass her 2001 3.5 RL with 100000 miles on it to one of her grandchildren (me) but wants to make sure it is safe first. I would be driving the car cross-country (2,800 miles) in early October. Are there any issues with this model of RL that I should watch out for? My understanding is that the RL doesn't have the transmission issues that plagued the TLs of this era. Beyond standard maintenance and a new battery, I don't think it's had any additional work done. I'm going to pay for a mechanic to check the car out beforehand, but I know there are some things they might not be able to catch.
Basically, would you be okay with your granddaughter driving across the country in this car, or would you be concerned about it breaking down?
Thank you in advance!

These first generation Acura Rl's are still running with 200,000 to 240,000 mile on them. I myself own a 2000 Acura RL with 110,000 miles on it and I would not hesitate to make a cross-country trip with it (minus the Covid-19 pandemic.) Having the mechanic look over the car prior to the trip is advisable. It's a solid well-built car that is reliable and safe when maintained . Have a AAA membership or road-hazard policy and happy motoring.

if it wasnt maintained properly and it's an unsafe ride, then NO WAY.

Thank you both (and your 2000 RL is looking snazzy!)! Unfortunately I learned that it is eligible for an airbag inflator recall (see photo) and the part to fix it won't be available until 2021 at the earliest, so I guess I will need to find another option to get me across the country.
