A/C and heat question

I have been having noise coming from the AC pulley, so being its winter and i wont need the AC, i cut off the ac pulley belt. no more noise, and the heat works like normal. on thing I was curious about, should I unplug the AC compressor electrical connection? I do hear it turning on when I activate the heat. I am able to turn it off with the hvac controls, but wonder if I would be creating a problem by not disconnection.

FYI

In the long run you could create ac leakage/seepage problem by cutting the ac belt. The o rings that seal the ac systems need periodic lubrication from the freon/oil mixture or they will dry out and cause seepage. Although it will take many months before you start to loose freon.

Answer: Turning it off at the console is fine.

When the bearing noise was present, machanic said he doesnt rebuild, but replace. The ac condensor works, but pully noise was unbearable. So i had the belt cut, but ac compressor is still connected, electrically.

When i turn on the hvac, the ac compressor turns on, but i only need heat. I have to manually turn off ac compressor. Will leaving it as is still leave me with a potential problem in 4 months time?

From experience, this repair can wait till late spring.

Personally I wouldn't put it off for many reasons...

1. Pay now or pay later, to me no difference.

2. The defrosting works much better with ac pulling the moisture from the cabin air. You could cause an accident due to a fogged up windshield or glass.

3. It takes much longer to defrost a car with out ac.

4. Your 1g rl is no spring chicken, probably ok to wait for repair but you won't know until belt is reinstalled. Four months is a substantial amount of time in my opinion and I wouldn't want to put it off anymore than that.

I can still get cold air from the fan for defrosting. I manage so far with defogging issues.
