Brake lights not working
Brake lights not working
I have an 2000 Acura RL. About six months ago, the brake lamp light came on but I wasn't able to figure why. As I recall, I pushed on the brakes and had my wife check to make sure the lights were working. Eventually, I was told my others that one of the rear brake lights was not working. Not sure if it was the brake lights when depressed or the entire light (i.e., when head lights are on).
So yesterday, we are told that the brake lights are not working at all (this was day time). I take a look last night and notice that none of the upper tail lights are working at all (when head light on). Not even the middle brake light in the window. Reverse and bottom tail lights seem okay.
I originally assumed the bulbs were out so I changed them. This did nothing. I next checked the fuses, which admittedly were not obvious to me. Maybe we can start here. In the fuse box below the steering wheel, I found a couple of fuses that could refer to the lights labeled "running light" (I believe). One was 7.5 and the other was 10. I also saw a fuse that was says "small light" that I was able to verify that controls the bottom tail lights. The fuse is a 15.
Changed them all and nothing worked. So did I find the brake light fuse? Was it a different one that I did not get?
I figured my next thing would be the brake light switch. But I must admit that the way the brake lights seemingly went out makes me suspicious of anything "normal" at this time.
Is there anyway to check the brake light switch without having to replace it first?
I should also mention that the car, which I bought used, has always had issues.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
