add child safety seat teather point to 1999?

Hi, I just bought a 1999 RL and realized that it does not have a child safety seat theater point.

Is it possible to add one? Who should I ask?

what doYou mean tether point? The ones that are usually in the seats? If so my RL has it. I don't know if its built into the seats or frame. If its built into the seats you can possibly get the seatbacks from a newer one and swap out.? If it built into the body then I don't know.

Yeah, I was just coming back to add what I meant. Not the u-shaped rings between the seat and the seat back, the little clips (three of them) that are under the back window. They allow a tethered child seat an additional anchor point in addition to the u-shaped ones you clip to or the seat belt wrap.

I don't have a manual (how do people loose these?), but I thought this was supposed to be standard on 1999s.

I know I have a 1999 because the title, carfax, and existence of fog lights all point to the car being a 1999.

They were added in 2000 along with stability control.

But do you think there is a way to get someone to add something that might work?

I'm sure you can buy the parts. I assume you just drill and bolt.

Hit the junkyard and grab em. Then it should be as simple as drilling a hole and purchasing a nut and locking washer.

You would just have to be carefull when drilling the rear shelf.

Old_hatch, so you think I could just unscrew them off the old car? I saw a 1999 with these on it, so I guess it must be possible.

Yes they come off the car easily. I think its a 14mm bolt.

Now drilling the hole in your car would be something you need to be very comfortable with.

If you do decide to do it, I would cut the hole in the rear shelf with a utility knife and then follow with a pilot hole in the sheetmetal increasing the size with different dril bits until the hole is the correct size.

The dealer said that the holes are already taped for this install it's just that the carpet on the back sill needs to be cut and the part slapped in there. $80 all things told, so I'm just going to let them do it since it is safety equipment.
