'99 Tail light fitting in a '96

Basically the title says it all.. I like the '99 tails a lot more than the '96 so I was going to swap them out.. My question is if they would fit?? they seem to be the the same size.

from what I have read they will not. You would need to do some modding to get them in, not sure how much, but I'm sure that it is not a direct fit.
