My car has been sitting in the driveway for a few months. I started it up and put it in reverse an backed down the driveway. I then put it in drive and pulled back up in the driveway, but the shifter would not go past the neutral position. I tried using the bypass slot to the right of the shifter but no dice. I had to disconnect the battery just to take the key out the ignition.

 

There's a lockout switch on the shifter you could try looking at. Its a activated by the brake pedal switch. Dont know if it would work for you though

 

Try back light fuse under the hood! Brake lights would not work, If not check out the break switch sensor, your brake lights would be staying on!
