Lightbulb 53200-sz3-a01

So i went to the stealership today to get my Telescopic Steering Wheel repaired. I have a 2004 RL with extended warranty, the damn thing just got stuck in the up position when auto responding to me inputing the key. To my suprise the extended warranty i have refuse to cover the repairs and the stealership is willing to do it for $3765. They say the part i need is part number "53200-SZ3-A01" and that alone costs $3200......ouch......

I am thinking i need a new motor but the stealership is saying i need a new steering wheel collum..dat dont make sense to moi.. Anyways the in and out feature works on th steering wheel but the up and down do not work..

I searched the forum a great deal and could not find any info or diy sticky.. Can anybody help me out or point me in the right direction because thats a lil pricey for me at the moment, i can give it a try myself if not too complicated u know...thanks guys for any input..

Hey, I'm sorry to say, but you overpaid and big time.

There are two TERRIBLY designed plastic gears that govern the up and down/telescoping motion of the steering wheel.

The teeth on the bastards break and leave it stuck. So no matter how hard the motor tries to spin, it can't bite into anything because the gear is broke.

Try to get lucky at a pick-a-part and see if they'll let you take a gear out!

Best of luck to you!

Thanks MyNameIsEarl, at this point if i can figure out a way to just manually lower the steering wheel into a comfortable position i would be good...

Any ideas, i was told by the Acura Tech at the dealer that the design on the 04 RL were metal gears and not plastic like the earlier model RL's but that was probably just a tactic to have me let them do the job, i run out of there so quick... Thanks again..

If you could remove the gear to get measurements you could 3d print replicas. I'm gonna guess it would be about $100 for them.

i wouldn't know where or how to start with 3d print replicas besides the tech did say its the motor that is bad so im wondering are the gears the same as the motor or are the gears something separate from the motor..

Mines grinded and stopped going down. But there's a way to manually make it come down. I found a DIY somewhere. Search Google.
