I have a 2002 RL and when I go from park to drive, it shifts fine, but when coming from drive, its hard to get past reverse to go to park. Does anyone have any idea why?

I think what you are describing is pretty normal. Unless you got some corrosion in the mechanics or something. It's probably just the spring lock thingy that keeps the shifter from accidentally moving while the car is in motion.

Has this how the shifter has always been since the time you have owned the car? Or did this just recently become a problem?
