Hello all,

Today my RL (2000) under light acceleration a very loud grinding noise occurred lasting about 2 seconds and then a bit of a ping type sound just as thou something had come or popped loose... Immediately after that the transmission slipped badly and starting slipping intermittently for a few miles... It seems to shift OK now but when power braking it sounds like something is rubbing or grinding with a very high pitch sound almost like something traveled into the torque convertor or pump... I have read on Consumer Guide that Acura has extended the warranty on the transmission for 7 years or 100K due to a nut on the low clutch not having thread-locking compound on it causing the transmission to fail... I have not driven it far after this occurrence... Does anyone think this is the case??? I would just like the opinion of the group before I battle out with the dealer... My Acura only has 82,000 miles so I hope it falls under this warranty... Please kindly advise...?

yes it does sound something is wrong with the transmission, btw my 96 RL with 179K never experience any transmission problem!!thank god

 

Any idea what the cost is of a new one??? Is it better to rebuild???
